After playing in various original-music bands since I was a teenager, I decided it was about time that I made my own record for the sake of my own vanity. Since all of my friends had made CDs that were gathering dust in their basements I felt like I was missing something. So, released in September of 2000, Just Acquaintances became the first incarnation of The RadioSpares. Most of the instruments on the CD were played by myself with my good friend, Dennis Olson, taking care of most of the drums with a few other friends dropping in to add parts here and there. In July of 2001, Dennis and I managed to get Doug Johnson (guitar) and Milo Shoberg (bass) to join us for a one-time show so I could give away as many of the 1000 CDs I had pressed as possible.
I figured that would be the end of it. I had plenty of CDs left over (about 900!) to hand out at open-mics or to be used as a means of impressing women that I might be interested in dating.
As the next year and a half went by I kept dwelling on how much fun that one show had been and that I might be willing to put in the effort to actually have a band. I also had been writing a bunch of new songs that I thought be fun to play out. So, In the fall of 2002, I set about the task of making it happen. With luck, I was able to get Doug Johnson back on the guitar. Gary Cook, who shot the photography for Just Acquaintances, played drums until December of 2005 when Dennis Olson returned behind the kit. Martin McGough played bass until July of 2004 and Caroline DeVinck joined in January of 2005.
The next record, which may or may not be titled "Delusions of Adequacy", should be finished sometime before either the sun goes red-giant or I need a haircut.
